Core Program
Description
Over the course of two terms, students will grow through biblical content, theological discussions, practical how-to’s, and spiritual formation. For those who want graduate school (seminary) credit, this program will transfer as 15 credit hours of accredited coursework. The academic courses covered are: Theology I, Theology II, Historical Theology, Intro to Hermeneutics, and Biblical Spirituality.
Calendar: The CORE Program is offered over 2 Terms:
Term I: Mid October - Late November
Term II: Early January - Mid March
Delivery: Sessions will be delivered in a hybrid model including Saturday seminars, Monday evening classes, small group cohort gatherings, and video lectures.
What to Expect: Each session will include interaction over readings, lectures, cohort discussions and opportunities to explore and probe deeper into the content of the week. Students will be expected to come to class having read the assigned Bible passages, chapters from textbooks, and having completed questions designed for discussion.
It will be rigorous without being overwhelming. Credit students will put in roughly 6-8 hours of reading/work in addition to the class time, and Foundations (non-accredited) students can expect to put in 1-2 hours of outside reading/work). Of course, working ahead during the gap weeks can help spread that workload out.
You can find the VST Core Syllabus here!
Cost: We offer the Core Program for $1500 (credit students / 15 credit hours) and $500 for Foundations (noncredit) students. Half of the total cost is due at the time of registration, while the remaining half is due by the start of the second term.
Classes
Description
Similar to the Core Program, each VST class will be available for Foundations or Credit students. In these classes we will travel through the whole Old and New Testaments and spend time diving into Apologetics and Christian Ethics.
Cost: We deliver these classes as “live” versions of the MBTS online classes. As such, they are subject to the MBTS Tuition and Fees (Credit students). Foundations students can expect a tuition fee of $100.
What to Expect: These courses will feel very similar to the Core Program above, but will be contained within one trimester and focus on one subject rather than bridging terms and integrating subjects. These classes will not be available to Distance Students—weekly in-person attendance is required.
It will be rigorous without being overwhelming. Credit students will put in roughly 6-8 hours of outside reading/work per class, and Foundations (non-accredited) students can expect to put in 4-6 hours of outside reading/work per class. Of course, working ahead can help spread that workload out.
Schedule: Check out the overall VST Schedule above to see when the next class will come around!
Accreditation: VST is accredited through Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO. Gaining credit for VST courses is dependent on successfully applying to MBTS. In order to enroll at the Credit level of VST, you must have already completed your bachelor’s degree or be within 15 credits of graduation.
